Cuvasion Estate Wines
Continuing our pursuit of low tannin wines for my sister, we stopped at Cuvaison Estate Wines. The entrance to their tasting room is just off the main drag behind Domain Carneros. We did the Estate Tasting which was $50 for a taste of 5 wines. As we were escorted to a table on their patio, we also received a glass of their Rosé of Pinot Noir (which was perfectly chilled and refreshing on a warm summer day).
As is common for the area, the menu consisted of mostly of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Méthode Breton is a fun one, with the secondary fermentation taking place in concrete eggs. (As I may have stated, I’ve always wanted to live in one of those.) Both of the Pinots were entirely quaffable with the Spire drinking well right now , but the Fiddlestix needs some time. Unlike the estate wines, this one came from the Santa Ynez Region close to the coast.
Additionally, the winery produces a few small lots of Merlot, Syrah, and a Zinfandel. Of course, we’re always hoping to try bubbles but alas, no dice.
While all of the wines were good, we didn’t feel any of them were particularly remarkable except for the Rosé, which was fruity but bone dry. We ended up taking a bottle home.
