Bedrock Wine Company
One of the first wine clubs we joined when we moved to San Francisco was Ravenswood, started by Joel Peterson and Kate Twain. We loved that winery and were incredibly sad when they decided to sell—and eventually close—their tasting room.
Their son, Morgan Twain-Peterson, is the owner and winemaker at Bedrock Wine Company. Appointment made.
Tastings are held in a historic home right off Sonoma Plaza. It’s a bit hard to find, so pay attention to signage and when you run into the fountain, keep going.
We enjoyed every single wine they poured, including the Under the Wire Sparkling Pinot Noir, which tasted to me like cherry ice cream.
My favorite was the 2018 Bedrock Heritage. The vines were planted in 1888! Although majority zinfandel, it is truly a field blend of 27 different varieties. The end result was incredibly refined and tasted of cherry and baking spices.
My husband’s favorite however was from the Teldeschi Vineyard up in Dry Creek Valley. Another field blend, it’s majority Petite Syrah and could easily handle a steak.
We also purchased a Sonoma Cab! The 2017 Mentecello Cabernet Sauvignon is from the Moon Mountain District. It was light than a Napa Cab with great red fruit notes and a minerality reminiscent of talcum powder.
