The Girl and the Fig

Even before I knew I loved figs, I knew I loved this restaurant. The Girl and the Fig is a Sonoma institution. They serve lunch and dinner, but brunch is really where it’s at.

Because we’re wine tasting, we usually take a break from the alcohol at brunch and just get water. But if your liver can take it, their fig royale is legendary.

All of the gluten free options on the menu are marked with a cute little asterisk, which makes ordering for the celiac-afflicted extra easy, except that there are so many options. My favorite dish are the pancakes. They change up the flavor depending on the season; this time it was blueberry syrup with an orange mascarpone cheese. So good!

The other people in my party ordered the omelet of the day and the sausage and biscuits. Both were so tasty, they cleaned their plates despite the goodly-sized portions.

Pro tip: Make a reservation using OpenTable so you don’t have to wait an hour for a table. You won’t be able to find them on the app, but you can use the embedded widget on their website. No spots left? If you’re lucky, you can snag a spot at the bar.
