For our first winery visit since the start of the pandemic, we chose Frank’s Family Vineyards. A new winery for us, Frank’s could have been a total bust, but it was a wonderful experience.

First, the grounds are LOVELY. Someone clearly had Instagram in mind when they designed this place complete with a red carpet-esque entry, hanging basket chairs on the porch, and loads of succulents.

Our wine educator was fantastic as well. There was a set flight, but when he learned of my mother’s love of bubbles, he quickly switched her over to an all sparkling experience while pouring reds for me. All of the sparkling wines were delightful. The winemaker clearly understands how to balance the fruit and yeasty flavors. Mom became a member! And took home bottles of their late harvest and port-style dessert wine in her suitcase.

My favorite splash of the day though was the Winston Hill, a left bank Bordeaux blend with grapes from the Rutherford appellation. Did I want to try it because it’s named “Winston” (like my pandemic puppy)? Yes! But I brought it home because I wanted to sip a whole bottle with Husband while devouring a steak and salad.

This stop is definitely recommended for anyone who loves bubbles or French-style reds.
